Nicholson Yacht Charters Our History In 1949, on the remote island of Antigua, West Indies, the Nicholson family enroute to Australia on their 73 feet schooner, MOLLIHAWK, arrived at the Naval Base of English Harbour. Fascinated by the beauty and history of the island, they stayed for a while. At that time, the elegant Mill Reef Club was being built. Residents of the club could see the neighboring islands, but had no means to get to them. They saw the sleek, beautiful, elegantly appointed yacht, Mollihawk, anchored at Nelson’s Dockyard and asked Comdr. Vernon B. Nicholson to transport them, and a yachting business was born. The crew were his sons, Rodney and Desmond Nicholson and a professional chef.. Julie Pyle arrived in Antigua aboard Irving Johnson’s sailing brigantine, Yankee in 1954. She met and married Rodney and joined the company as Comdr.’s right hand person. The business grew! Many yachts and their crew, such as Freelance, Ron of Argyle, Georgiana, Boekanier, Xebec, Pan
